“Soaked In Esoteric Spirits” — Dele Momodu Accuses Wike Of Disrespecting Nigeria’s Democracy

Veteran journalist and media executive, Chief Dele Momodu, has lambasted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over what he described as a “rampaging” and “disrespectful” appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday evening.

In a strongly worded statement titled “Nyesom Wike: A Bull in the China Shop,” Momodu accused the FCT Minister of spewing personal attacks and disparaging critics of his political conduct while “clearly intoxicated with power and esoteric spirits.”

Momodu, the publisher of Ovation International Magazine, said Wike’s comments on the programme were unguarded and amounted to an assault on Nigeria’s democratic values.

“He was obviously soaked in some esoteric spirits as he went on full rampage to disparage everyone opposed to his despicable assault on our hard-earned democracy,” Momodu said. “But he is a bit too young to know and appreciate what it took to return Nigeria to democracy in 1999.”

Recalling a past encounter, Momodu said Wike had previously sought a right of reply following an Instagram live interview in which IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu openly criticised the then Rivers State Governor. According to him, Wike later invited Ovation to Port Harcourt to cover some of his projects and appeared to enjoy the positive publicity.

“But since his memory seems to be fading rapidly, I have now requested a right of reply from Channels TV next Monday to copiously show Nigerians — and President Bola Tinubu in particular — the type of loose cannon he has unleashed on hapless citizens in the name of politics,” Momodu stated.

He also ridiculed Wike’s veiled reference to food and hospitality offered to him in the past, saying: “As stupendously wealthy as he is, his crass food was not the type anyone would actually savor. Rather, I touched him up like a beauty therapist and introduced him to some exclusive champagnes and perfumes.”

Momodu warned that Wike’s current public behavior was unbecoming of a senior government official and urged that “someone urgently needs to rescue him before he goes stark in the marketplace.”

The media personality concluded by reiterating his demand for airtime on Channels Television to respond formally and directly to the comments made by the Minister.
