The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stinging rebuke of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, condemning what it described as “the irredeemably exploitative, insensitive, and anti-people” governance of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.
This was contained in a communiqué released on Tuesday following the 99th meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP, held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The NEC expressed deep concern over what it termed the melancholic state of the nation, citing rampant insecurity, economic hardship, and policy mismanagement as indicators of systemic failure under the Tinubu-led APC.
“NEC condemns the worsening insecurity—wanton killings, banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism—emboldened by President Tinubu’s apparent negligence and abdication of his constitutional duty to protect Nigerians,” the communiqué read.
It also lamented the rising poverty and business closures attributed to what it described as “ill-advised and ill-implemented policies”, such as fuel subsidy removal, hikes in electricity tariffs, and multiple taxes. These, the PDP said, have resulted in the collapse of the productive sector, mass unemployment, and social instability.
The PDP NEC did not mince words in accusing the Tinubu administration of wholesale corruption, budget padding, and diversion of public funds, asserting that these actions have led to infrastructural decay and a decline in investor confidence.
In a strongly worded condemnation, the party warned against what it called a “sinister plot to transform Nigeria into a one-party state.”
“The Tinubu-led APC is openly threatening opposition parties and democratic institutions in a desperate bid to avoid electoral defeat in 2027,” the party alleged.
The NEC reaffirmed its commitment to democratic values, the rule of law, and multi-party politics, stressing that the PDP remains the nation’s primary democratic alternative.
In a move to consolidate internal party processes, the NEC ratified the composition of both the National Convention Committee and the Zoning Committee ahead of its scheduled convention from Thursday, August 28 to Saturday, August 30, 2025.
The National Convention Committee will be chaired by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), with Governor Ademola Adeleke (Osun) as Vice Chairman and Governor Peter Mbah (Enugu) as Secretary.
The Zoning Committee will be led by Governor Douye Diri (Bayelsa) as Chairman, Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) as Vice Chairman, and Governor Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau) as Secretary.
The NEC acknowledged the Resolution of the South East Zonal Executive concerning the position of National Secretary of the party. However, it resolved to defer action on the matter until its next meeting scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025.
In a rallying call to Nigerians, the NEC assured that the PDP remains “strong, resilient, united, and determined” to lead the charge to rescue the country from what it calls the “vicious grip of the APC.”
