The Nigeria Police Force has announced the successful extradition of a Nigerian fugitive, Abubakar Aboki Muhammed, from the United Arab Emirates over allegations of multi-million dollar fraud, forgery, and money laundering.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the extradition was coordinated by INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, following the issuance of a Red Notice for Muhammed’s arrest.
Muhammed was declared wanted after an Abuja-based international businessman filed a complaint in July 2023, alleging that he was defrauded under the pretext of a vehicle shipping contract. Posing as a legitimate shipping agent, Muhammed reportedly secured a deal to transport ten luxury vehicles valued at $307,500.00 from the UAE to Nigeria. The suspect allegedly received the full payment through a third-party account at FCMB, registered in the name of one Anas Usaini, a Kano resident.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect forged a bill of lading and disappeared after receiving the funds, which were laundered through financial channels in Dubai. He was eventually tracked down and arrested in Dubai on 15th April 2025.
His extradition to Nigeria on Friday, 23rd May 2025 marks a milestone in the fight against transnational financial crimes, with Muhammed set to face prosecution at the Federal High Court.
ACP Adejobi praised the collaborative efforts of the Dubai Police, INTERPOL NCB Abu Dhabi, and the Nigerian Consulate General in Dubai in facilitating the extradition. He reiterated the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, to intensifying global partnerships in tracking and prosecuting economic and cross-border crimes.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its pursuit of justice and will not relent in dismantling networks of international fraudsters who seek to undermine public trust and economic stability,” the statement concluded.
