Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has approved an increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state, raising it from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000.
The governor made the announcement on Friday during the State Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo.
The new allowance will take effect from August 1, 2025.
Governor Eno said the increment is part of the state government’s efforts to complement the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 monthly payment to corps members and to help them meet their basic needs.
“More than 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” he stated.
The approval follows the governor’s earlier directive for the complete reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp at Ikot Itie Idung, as part of broader efforts to improve the welfare and living conditions of corps members in the state.
